Brazil’s payments fight exposes a paradox: Washington targets Pix while dollar stablecoins dominate local crypto flows

CoinDesk linked the U.S. trade challenge to Brazil’s electronic-payment policies with the country’s heavy use of dollar-linked stablecoins. USTR has formally found parts of Brazil’s digital-trade and electronic-payment regime actionable under Section 301, including alleged favoritism toward a national payments champion. Separately, Brazilian data and officials indicate stablecoins dominate reported crypto activity, although estimates vary by dataset and should not be confused with 90% of all Brazilian payments.
